Advice for users outside IT Sligo wishing to use this course in QBasic
programming.
- This is just an elementary course on computer programming principles
using QBasic.
- If you do not have QBasic on your PC you may be able to download it
from the site specified on this
QBasic Links
page. You should create a QBasic folder on your hard disk before you
download it and then save it there. You will need to unzip the file
before you can use it. If you don't have a program to do this you could
try searching the WWW for pkunzip and download .
- You will also need to download the exercises and assignments to this
same directory. There are 3 possible ways of handling this:
- If your browser does not automatically start QBasic when you
click on an exercise or assignment you will need to save the file in
your QBasic folder writing an MSDOS name for it (name.bas where name
can be anything up to 8 letters and no spaces) You probably should
use the name given to the file already which you can see at the end
of the web URL address which should in the box above the file. If it
automatically asks you if you wish to save it then do in the QBasic
folder (directory).
- If your browser recognises that .bas files are to be
started by QBasic it may start QBasic and load the file
automatically. In which case you should save it in your QBasic
folder (directory) when completed.
- Your browser may just automatically display the QBasic exercise
as text on your screen. You should the select Save As from
the File menu and save it in the QBasic folder (directory)
making sure that the file name ends in .bas
- When you have started QBasic you will need to access this folder
(directory) instead of the one specified in the practical notes (as this
is on our local networkin IT Sligo)
To return to where you were select Back on the toolbar.
