Donna Ó Doibhlin

I work as Assistant Librarian in the Dundalk Institute of Technology, with specific responsibility for ensuring the quality of bibliographic records.  In addition, I specialise in sourcing business information and instructing members of the library in their use.  Prior to joining Dundalk IT I worked as Librarian in Froebel College of Education in Dublin and before that I was employed by the Bar Council of Ireland, in the Law library at the Four Courts.

I intend to introduce the features of the Millennium library system, with special reference to the aspects of the system, which facilitate open and distance learning.  I propose to talk about the following:

·        OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue on the Web) – remote access, research and inter-library-loan request forms.

·        Progress reports – for books on order.

·        Access to other IT college catalogues – facilitating inter-college research and borrowing.

·        Bibliographic records for online resources.

·        Hotlinks to websites for hardcopy resources.

·        Serials hotlinks – serials online – searchable archives.

·        View patron record – facilitates loan renewals, check status of requests, etc.

·        Suggestions for the library – new book requests and other recommendations.

·        Web Access Management – remote access to commercial databases.

·        IT consortium – co-operative cataloguing facilitating faster bibliographic record additions.
