The one-day trip organised by the club this year was to St John’s Point off the coast of Donegal. In all nine divers part took in the trip.
Getting There
In order to avoid the long trip by land (approximately 1 and 1/2 hours from Sligo) the club opted to hire Mullaghmore Diving Centre's RIB. Contact Danny or Attracta Boyle at Harbour View B+B. Lanching from Mullaghmore harbour this reduces the travel time down to just 15-20 minutes. However if you are travelling by road the route is as follows:
Having reached Donegal Town proceed west on the N56 through Mountcharles and Dunkineely. Approxiametly 500M after Dunkineely take the first left. This road continues to the end of the peninsula.

Compressors are either available at Mullaghmore Dive Centre or the Blue Moon Youth Hostel in Dunkineely on the way to the dive site.

The Dives
The Shore Dives
This site is readily accessible from the shore by snorkelling straight out from the steps beside the lighthouse. However in our case on board sonar allowed the divers to be dropped in to their preferred depth. This dive varies in depth from 10m down to 30m. It is recommended to start at the deepest point and ascend along the wall where a plethora of marine life will keep you transfixed. We found that most of the life was located between 10 and 15M. There is a virtual mosaic of soft sponges along the wall and deep crevices reveal a wealth of fish life and crustaceans.
For those who want a change from Mullaghmore but still want an easy and enjoyable dive Johns Point is the place to head.
